Key West, Fla — High flying drones could soon become the next weapon to battle those pesky mosquitoes.
Today the “Florida Keys Mosquito Control District”… began testing a next-generation drone… developed by a small Gainesville robotics company.
The drone is rigged with a thermal camera… designed to survey hard-to-access areas that are breeding grounds for the marsh mosquito.
The battery-powered drone weighs 2.6 pounds… and has a wing span of just over 2 and a half feet.
The drone can fly for up to 70 minutes… at about 30 miles an hour… and stream live video to a laptop.
The cost of the drone? About $65 dollars.
